Po'ipu, your home base on the Garden Island of Kaua'i

Poipu is the ideal location for your Kauai visit. The roads on Kauai do not go completely around the island. The area in the Northwest, near the Na Pali Coast, does not have any roads. To see the sights at either end of the road, you have to travel all the way out and back — there is no way to do a loop. Since there are great things to see at both ends of the road, being situated in the middle is ideal.

The very name Poipu, generally spelled Po`ipu and properly pronounced Po-ee-POO, means “crashing waves” in Hawaiian, and you will understand the name after visiting Po`ipu Makai.

Po`ipu is located on the sunny south shore of Kauai.

Poipu Makai is within walking distance of Poipu Beach, named “America’s Best Beach” by Dr. Beach in 2001. Shipwrecks Beach (shown) is also within walking distance, as is the Grand Hyatt Hotel and the Mahaulepu area.

There are multiple restaurants within walking distance of Poipu Makai, however the very best views are right from your lanai. Cook in the kitchen or use the gas BBQ available by the pool.
